Mommy and Monica birthday

My mom and I have had a yearly tradition of going out and celebrating our birthdays together since I was 18. It’s always been *our* special day. Melissa used to come with us too, since her birthday was also in August.

Fourteen years ago, on this day, we put her to rest. 💔 It’s hard to believe it has been that long. After she passed away, my mom wanted to continue our birthday tradition, and we have. But it’s always bittersweet.

We still go out, we still celebrate, and we still make memories together—but there is always an empty seat beside us at the movies and at dinner. A seat that reminds us of the one who should be there with us.

In a few days, we'll be another year older... maybe wiser too, or maybe not. 😂 But definitely older!

Today, I’m grateful for another year, for my mom, for our tradition, and for the memories we continue to make. And most of all, for the memories we have of Melissa.

Fourteen years later, we still miss you so much, Melissa. ❤️ You will always have a seat beside us and a place in our hearts.
